Description
World War I German Gewehr 98 (Gew 98) bolt-action rifle manufactured in 1915 by Deutsche Waffen-und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) in Berlin. DWM was a major manufacturer of the GEW 98, along with the MG08. The GEW 98 was the standard-issue service rifle for the German Empire during the World War I. This particular rifle is clearly stamped with the manufacturer’s name, the city of Berlin, and 1915, alongside Imperial German proof marks on both the receiver and the barrel shank. The receiver, barrel, tang, stock, and butt plate are all marked with matching serial number “7345”. The smaller parts, “barrel bands, tang screws, rear sight, and floor plate all stamped “45”. The matching original walnut stock displays numerous handling marks, surface scratches, and a dark finish consistent with military field use, but no sign of any cracks. The serial number and proof marks are clearly visible on the stock. Metal parts show light oxidation and patina, consistent with age and field use. Bore does show some oxidation; however, the rifling is prominent. NOTE: The bolt is missing. Please see photos for overall condition. S/N: 7345. C&R Eligible.
