Description

A must-have for the serious WWII aviation enthusiast, featuring three striking black-and-white art prints of iconic fighter aircraft, each signed in pencil. The prints depict a P-47 Thunderbolt (likely a ‘D’ model due to its profile), a German Messerschmitt Bf 109, and an American P-51 Mustang (appearing to be a ‘D’ or ‘K’ variant). Accompanying these prints is a grouping of handwritten and typed correspondence, including letters believed to be signed by Colonel Hubert “Hub” Zemke, a highly decorated American ace and commander of the famed 56th Fighter Group, “Zemke’s Wolfpack.” The prints are rendered in a technical, detailed illustration style, capturing the distinct silhouettes and markings of the planes. The Bf 109 print clearly shows German Luftwaffe markings and a Reichsverteidigung (Defense of the Reich) camouflage scheme. The prints themselves appear to be on heavy art paper and are currently unframed. Condition is overall good; the prints show minor signs of handling wear along the edges and corners, typical of stored paper goods, but the main image areas are clean. The accompanying correspondence is folded and shows age-toning and creases. The edges of the paper show some yellowing. Part of the John Bannister Collection. H 11″, W 17″. See photos.
