The John Bannister Collection - D-Day and Militaria
Lot 1076:
Description
Here is a RARE, Quality Hardware M1 carbine with serial number 4. The rifle features a milled style adjustable peep sight (with crossed canon ordnance stamp) and a Type 2 barrel band. The barrel is marked “Buffalo Arms / 9-1943” with a bomb ordnance stamp and the fixed front site has a “U” proof mark. The two piece, matching stock is a nice quality birds eye maple, which shows minor knicks and scuffs, consistent with storage. The stock does not have any markings and is missing the rear sling cut out. It is speculated by many collectors that this carbine was designated as a “tool room model” or “shop guide gun” for Quality Hardware until their contract was completed. Afterwards, the rife was outfitted with the birds eye maple stock and used as a presentation piece. The barrel is super clean, with no pitting and the rifling is prominent. The trigger and action function properly. All metal parts are in very good condition and do not show any oxidation. The rifle does not come with a magazine. Please see photos for overall condition. Part of the John Bannister Collection.
