Guns, Ammo, and Militaria Auction
Lot 2088:
A nice Machete Tagalo, issued in the Philippine Colony by the Spanish. Carried by the Civil Guards and the Customs Police of the country. Used in the 1880’s and till the end of Spanish Rule in 1898. The clipped point, single edge blade has no fuller. A knife like this was perfect for their practicality and versatility in jungle combat and warfare. Handle and blade have slight wiggle. And the cross guard is missing a portion at the base of the blade. The blade is sharp, but has evidence of heavy use, especially at the tip. The one piece brass handle is solid, with no distinguishing makers marks or features. Whether cutting down thick vegetation, or keeping enemies at bay, this would have been a valued and cherished tool. It also would be a great war souvenir, which is likely what brought it back to the United States from the American forces that fought there in the Spanish American War. Measurements: 20-1/2” overall, 5-1/2” wide, 1” thick. Blade measures 14-3/4”. “To Hell with Spain! Remember the Maine!” Please see photos.
