Civil War Auction
Lot 1131:
Description
Original CDV of Union General Ambrose Everts Burnside. “Burnside” written in pencil on back. Overall a nice image in near fine condition. Measures: 2-1/2”x 4”. General Burnside was a senior officer and known for two disastrous defeats, at Fredericksburg and the Battle of the Crater (Petersburg). He is more famously remembered for his distinct facial hair, of which the term “side-burns” originates from. This CDV was part of the Civil War and Indian War display at Donley’s Wild West Town Museum for 45 years.
