Description
Cannonball for pre-1860 32-pounder gun recovered from Vicksburg. 31.6 lbs. and 6.16″ diameter. Protective shellac coating applied at one time on visible surface with exposed section that sat in the home made ring mount exposed and uncoated. Faintly visible in center “sweet spot” of cannonball in white is written “Vicksburg”. Written in blue chalk./crayon on base “This cannonball discovered on the property of Thos. J Roe 1919”? Thomas J. Roe was an attorney in Vicksburg Miss. at the time that this would have been recovered. From the David Hopper collection. Please see pictures.
