Description

Original CDV of Tennessee Abolitionist Parson Brownlow. Overall a nice image in near fine condition. Measures: 2-1/2” x 4”. Brownlow rose to prominence in the 1830’s and 1840’s as the editor of the Whig, a polemical newspaper in E. Tennessee that promoted Henry Clay and the Whig Party ideals, and also that repeated Brownlow’s opposition to secession by the southern slave states in the years leading up to the American Civil War. Brownlow’s bullheaded and radical viewpoints made him one of the most divisive figures in Tennessee history and one of the most controversial Reconstruction Era politicians of the United States. This CDV was part of the Civil War and Indian War display at Donley’s Wild West Town Museum for 45 years.
