Description
This sword is the very sought after pre 1854 production M1840 saber with the recessed crossguard. The 21.25″ blade is marked on the ricasso is marked “SHEBLE & FISHER” over PHILADA. The blade is somewhat bright and smooth to touch and has very small pattern of pitting that has been cleaned and blade edge has very fine machine grinding marks. Blade has no nicks or dings and tip is good. The handle fittings and crossguard are tight and show much age and wear. The leather and wire wrapped handle is tight and also show age and hard wear. The scabbard has been chromed a long time ago and is missing the lower strap ring/band. Has some rough damage to throat area and dents to body. This rare sword variation has a good look.
