Lot 93:
This sword is Ames sword is dated 1864. The ricasso marked “AMES MFG C” over “Chicopee, Mass”. Other side is marked “U.S.” over “M.M.” over “1864”. Upper scabbard hanger mount is stamped “D”. Blade is 32″ and overall length is 39.25″. Blade shows past cleaning. Blade tip is good and blade has no chips or dings. The leather wrap has minor loss and wire wrap is tight. Handle and crossguard are tight and show much age and wear. Scabbard may have old lacquer finish and it shows spotting with area of old sticker residue. Scabbard has no dings or dents. Solid Civil War example.
