Description

This carpet bag has a 1866 patent date, has paper label glued inside the bag which states “This old carpet Bag is the property of Bertha Haden Dejarnette 727 West Main St. Richmond Kentucky. Bertha Haden (died 1968) married Lodell Dejarnette (1892-1914) in 1913. The Kentucky State Militia butternut kepi in this auction is from the same estate. The bag is missing most of its leather handles. The 1866 patent tag is part on the key lock plate and the lock mechanism is missing. The condition is fair with much age and wear. There are some good research possibilities with this bag that may tie the Kepi to it. A very interesting part of Civil War and post war history.
