Civil War Auction
Lot 54:
This is an excellent example of the 11 button M1858 artillery shell jacket and is marked in right armpit with illegible manufacturer’s ink stamp. It the lining is gray and white wool worsted cloth. The most of the buttons match with a couple of period replacements. The buttons are plain thin neck eagle general service pattern. The condition is very good with the red worsted piping bright colors. The front chest and left arm area have wear areas with holes. The 11 button holes show normal wear. The blue wool body have have few random holes but they seem not to be from mothing. Lining has left interior pocket sewn in. The right arm cuff and right front jacket corner has a mothing. (see pictures) There is one 1″ slit hole in middle of back. Interior shows heavy staining in lower areas. This is a classic shell jacket in very good condition.
