Civil War Auction
Lot 258:
Description
This M1851 buckle looks close to #614 from O’Donnell & Campbell. The buckle is 82.5mm long with rather long eagle neck, no stars in shield and background random dot pattern to background. The back is not marked and keeper looks very sand cast. Belt has some worm holes and a patent leather high gloss with folded over leather with center seam to back on belt and straps. All the brass fittings have major green verdigris and should clean up well. Short hanger clip has lost its wire tension but still closes. The long hanger strap has a break at about 5″ from end. Someone had tried using needles to reconnect the broken piece. This may be a post Civil war rig and we welcome comments.
