This named kepi and medal grouping includes 1) Kepi named on partial paper label on sweatband for Captain Thomas W. Scudder (1834-1908) of Topeka Kansas who served from 1861 as Second Lt. to Colonel until 1865. The Kepi has mothing on the blue wool body and has brass buckled chinstrap. The side buttons are eagle and shield with a horizontal line background. The visor was flat but has curled up over time. The lining has traces of maker and leather sweatband has many pages from old newspapers or books to tighten the size. The sweatband is stiff and we cannot bend it back to check newspaper text or date. This hat shows extreme wear and age and shows evidence of any badges or badges ever applied. Included are loose kepi crossed swords and “5” company badge for temporary display on top of kepi (both with no prongs) and old display card with Scudder information. 2) The GAR medal reunion badge and button display has GAR Medal, 12 buttons and 1897 Reunion ribbon and badge for the Battle of Wilson’s Creek. A nice kepi to keep researching.
