RARE!! P.S. Justice Type III .69 Rifled Musket This original Civil War weapon is a .69 caliber percussion rifled musket manufactured in 1861 by the Philadelphia firm of P. S. Justice. In very good overall condition, this
longarm is one of almost 2,200 muskets contracted by P. S. Justice early in the war to meet the needs of the Union army and his deliveries were among the fastest from any American arms producer during the war.
This single-shot muzzleloader is the PS Justice “Third Type” that has three-groove rifling and brass nose cap, trigger guard, butt plate, patch box, and barrel bands.
The 39” long, round barrel features a bayonet lug near the muzzle with a brass blade sight mounted 1 ½” behind. Toward the breech end is a two-leaf rear sight and the maker’s stamp, “P. S. JUSTICE / PHILAD ” behind that. There is a large bolster with a comma-shaped profile holding the nipple. The barrel surface is clean and smooth with a light patina. The bore is clear with decent rifling. The barrel is held in place by three brass barrel bands which are screw-tightened;
there are no barrel band springs. The trigger guard has a distinctive double-curved shape with the lower sling swivel mounted at the front. The front swivel is mounted
on the middle barrel band. Original ramrod has “tulip” cup, and threaded ends. Patch box opens easily. All brass furniture has a matching mellow patina.
The lock plate has the same light patina as the barrel. There is a high-spur hammer with crude cross-hatching at the thumb tab. Mechanics are strong. No proof marks
or cartouches. Walnut stock is very attractive with beautiful grain patterns and original finish. There are very few of the usual dings and there are no cracks. C&R Eligible S/N:nsn
