Large ribbed plastic bodied hand or rifle grenade.
Type Designator/Model: Model 8053/D/Y
Cal./Size: 3 ¼-inches in diameter and 7 ½ -inches high Color: Red with a blue base and a yellow fuze body Manufacturer: Aircraft Armaments, Inc., Cockeysville, MD Country of Origin: United States. The body has small longitudinal grooves. The base is pre-rifled to fit the launcher cup. The top of the body has “2” and “5” molded into the plastic to indicate delay times, but I do not think it applies to this fuze. A paper label on the upper body is marked” Model 8053/D/Y; GUARD; IRRITANT AGENT DISPENSER; SPECIFICATIONS OZ TEAR GAS YELLOW STATION; cautions, the AAI logo; Instruction for use; and other information. Three other paper labels with the word “DISCHARGE and an arrow pointing to the base of the grenade indicates a base agent discharge. The unique fuze is electrically initiated. 2) Large ribbed plastic bodied hand or rifle grenade.

There is a pivoting arm on the top of the grenade to adjust the time of either 2 or 5 seconds. The striker release fuze is unmarked. The typical paper label is missing. The top of the body has “2” and “5” molded into the plastic to indicate delay times. These grenades are rarely seen offered for sale.
