Phonograph Records And Books Auction - ONLINE ONLY
Lot 1000:
Description
This lot includes a brown wax phonograph cylinder record along with its matching protective cardboard storage tube canister. Produced in the early 20th century, these early audio recordings were made of a wax compound designed to be played on Edison cylinder phonographs and similar talking machines. The handwritten note alongside the items reads “NCG large band faint North American blank,” which points to it likely being an early blank cylinder or a primitive home/field recording rather than a mass-market commercial release. Visually, the cylinder record shows a mottled, heavily oxidized, and weathered gray-and-brown surface texture indicative of age and material degradation, though the structural integrity remains intact; the cardboard canister exhibits expected surface discoloration and edge wear consistent with age. Canister: H 5″, W 2.75″, D 2.75″. Cylinder: H 4.25″, W 2.25″, D 2.25″. Please see photos for condition. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
