The Allen Koenigsberg Phonograph Collection
Lot 3404:
Description
This fascinating trio of complete early 1900s antique paper advertising booklets, printed by the National Phonograph Co. of Orange, New Jersey, offers a wonderful glimpse into the golden era of early recorded sound. Two of the booklets feature striking Art Nouveau styling on their covers promoting “Edison Gold Moulded Records American Selections,” including a vibrant blue variant showcasing Thomas A. Edison’s portrait and a decorative purple option accented with stylized green artichoke or hops motifs. The third booklet serves as a catalog for “Records for the Edison Phonograph,” displaying a clean sepia border, a handwritten pencil signature on the front cover, and an internal portrait of Edison with his iconic facsimile signature on the back. Objectively assessing their condition, the paper covers show light surface wear, minor edge scuffs, corner rounding, and some oxidation to the original metal staples; the spine on the thickest booklet exhibits significant tearing and paper breakage, though the collection remains structurally intact and in good overall condition for its age. H 6.25″, W 3.5″, D 0.25″. Please see photos for condition. From the Allan Koenigsberg collection.
