The Allen Koenigsberg Phonograph Collection
Lot 3130:
Description
The Columbia Perfected Graphophone Type G, AKA the “Baby Grand”, was introduced in 1894 by the American Graphophone Company. It holds historical significance as the first phonograph built exclusively for the home market, which basically started the musical entertainment record industry. It was produced for a very short time before Columbia transitioned to more affordable models. This machine is in VG original condition. The top works is as nice original as you will ever find. The gutta percha reproducer is good with stylus. The oak case has original finish and the banner decal is in good to VG condition with a couple of scratches. The cabinet has the early flip down front door and the aluminum ID plate is inside the lid with the serial number also stamped on the left side of the name plate. It is interesting to note that the serial number on the tag inside the lid is one number off from the serial number stamped in the machine, most likely done at the factory or the show room. The machine winds and runs. The wood knob is disconnected from the crank pin and will need to be repaired. These machines came with listening tubes but none are included. Measures 11.75” wide, 7.5” deep, 12” tall with lid. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
