This striking hand-woven coil basket exhibits the classic craftsmanship and geometric aesthetic often found in East African basketry, particularly within the Tuareg or Somali traditions. Constructed from sturdy natural fibers, the piece is elevated by a protective leather-wrapped rim, a pedestal base, and distinctive triangular leather appliques stitched around the exterior. The braided leather accents and matching lid suggest it was designed for both utility and display, likely used for storing dry goods or personal items. The item shows moderate age-related wear, with some darkening to the fibers, minor fraying at the coil ends, and light scuffing on the leather trim, though it remains structurally sound with a well-fitted lid.
