Description

This is a remarkable find for any serious collector of frontier history: a hand-hammered copper trade kettle bearing the iconic HBC (Hudson’s Bay Company) stamp near the rim. The piece features a rugged, hand-forged iron bail handle and heavy copper construction, characteristic of the utility vessels used in the North American fur trade. The heavy patination and “orange-peel” texture of the hammered bottom suggest significant age and authentic use over open hearths or campfires. Regarding its condition, the kettle shows expected signs of age including heavy oxidation (verdigris), surface pitting, and significant soot buildup on the base; notably, there are several visible holes through the copper on the bottom, though the iron handle remains securely attached.
