Relics of the American West: 1850-1920
Lot 2206:
Description
This ultimate Western Americana lot features an early-20th-century high-back cowboy saddle built on quarter horse bars with a 15-inch seat, a prominent leather-wrapped horn, and an A-fork swell, complete with stiff but restorable fenders, wooden stirrups, and a cloth girth. Accompanying the saddle is an antique dark brown leather rifle scabbard stamped with a “The Western Mfg. Co. Makers” oval maker’s mark and model “28”, featuring elegant scalloped border tooling. Completing the trio is a pair of complementary, non-matched hand-forged iron cowboy spurs showcasing beautifully engraved scrollwork and classic multi-point star rowels. The saddle leather displays heavy authentic wear, deep patina, surface cracking, and cooling marks, while the scabbard shows heavy field wear, some breakage, and areas of advanced red rot along the top edge; the iron spurs exhibit a rich, naturally oxidized dark patina with minor surface rust. H 36″, W 22″, D 35.5″ Please see photos for condition.
