Description

This primitive Native American grinding set, featuring a substantial stone mortar and two manos (grinding stones), represents the essential lithic technology used for processing maize, nuts, and medicinal herbs across North America. The mortar, is fashioned from a heavy fieldstone with a deep, smooth basin showing generations of rhythmic use, while the manos include a rounded river stone and a larger, tapered 8.5-inch volcanic or diorite pestle. These pieces exhibit a beautiful, authentic patina with natural mineral staining and oxidation consistent with long-term exposure. The set is in excellent, as-found condition, showing typical surface pitting, minor edge chips, and smoothing from prehistoric utility. H 5″, W 8.5″, D 8.5″. Please see photos for condition.
