Relics of the American West: 1850-1920
Lot 2167:
Description
A remarkable vintage outdoor sportsman’s kit featuring a fixed-blade hunting knife and an ingenious multi-tool folding saw-axe combination. Reflecting early to mid-20th-century frontier or bushcraft styling, both pieces feature pinned natural bone scales over robust full-tang construction. The fixed-blade knife features a brass or copper bolster and a stylized metal S-scroll pommel accent, showing characteristic hand-filed checkering on the lower ricasso. It is paired with a custom-tooled leather sheath showcasing a contrasting dark silhouette of a pin-up girl or female figure against a lighter background. The accompanying camp axe features a dual-purpose head with a primary cutting edge and a rear piercing spike, concealing a long, folding crosscut saw blade within the handle channel. The set shows signs of honest age and field use, including overall surface patina, minor pitting, and scratches on the steel components, alongside light scuffing on the bone handles and mild aging to the supple leather sheath, which remains intact with sturdy riveting and functional snaps. H 16.5″, W 4.5″, D 2.25″ Please see photos for condition.
