Description

This collection offers a poignant glimpse into the mid-19th century, featuring nine Cartes de Visite (CDV) and a unique business card for Philip Harman of the 1st Wis. Inft. The lot includes four portraits of Union soldiers in uniform, one of whom is a corporal with visible chevrons and a pipe, and five civilian portraits ranging from children to a seated gentleman. Notable markings include backstamps from “H. Aress” of Kentucky, “S.W. Truesdell” of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and “Morse’s Gallery of the Cumberland” in Nashville, Tennessee, complete with a 2-cent internal revenue tax stamp dating the piece between 1864 and 1866. The items show age-appropriate wear including toning, minor corner rounding, some foxing, and a small tear on one civilian card, though the photographic clarity remains generally strong.
