Relics of the American West: 1850-1920
Lot 2116:
Description
This expansive collection offers a fascinating journey through bead history, featuring a heavy concentration of ancient-style stone and bone “disk” and “cylinder” beads alongside vibrant glass trade beads. As a seasoned collector, I am particularly drawn to the white and earth-toned bone beads housed in the “Tom Moore” cigar box; these display the characteristic calcification and hand-hewn textures typical of early personal adornments. The secondary tray showcases a lively assortment of Chevron, Eye, and Millefiori style glass beads, echoing the aesthetic of 19th-century Venetian and African trade. Included is a smooth, hand-carved bone or shell bangle bracelet with a rich, creamy patina. The collection is in good condition overall; the stone and bone pieces show expected age-related wear, minor chipping, and earthen deposits, while the glass beads remain vibrant with occasional surface pitting. H 4″, W 12″, D 10″. Please see photos.
