Description

This impressive collection features four distinct equestrian bits, representing a diverse cross-section of 19th and early 20th-century tack. The highlight of the group is a rare U.S. military “Shoemaker” style curb bit, identifiable by its high-relief “US” brass bosses on the cheeks. Accompanying it are two additional military-grade pieces: a jointed full-cheek snaffle and a ring snaffle, both featuring authentic “U.S.” stamps and government-issue markings. Rounding out the set is a high-quality stainless steel pelham bit marked “MADE IN ENGLAND,” showcasing the superior craftsmanship of British lorinery. These pieces utilize a variety of materials, including forged iron, steel, and brass. The condition is reflective of age and service; the English pelham is in excellent, functional shape, while the three U.S. military bits exhibit heavy authentic oxidation, surface pitting, and a deep, dark patina consistent with historical field use. H 9″, W 11″, D 2″. Please see photos for condition.
