Description

These are a classic pair of early 20th-century solid wood duck decoys, identified by their distinct form and “V” shaped neck carving as products of the Mason Decoy Factory of Detroit, Michigan. The pair includes a Mallard Drake with its signature green head and a Hen with more subtle earth tones. Both feature solid wood bodies and original glass eyes, displaying the “Standard Grade” characteristics typical of Mason’s prolific output between 1896 and 1924. The condition is consistent with heavy field use; there is significant paint loss, crazing, and “shot marks” from years on the water. Both show structural drying cracks (checks) along the bottom and side grain, and the Mallard shows a small chip at the tip of the bill, yet they retain a wonderful folk-art patina that collectors crave. H 6.75″, W 5.75″, D 16.5″. Please see photos.
