Relics of the American West: 1850-1920
Lot 2032:
Description
This is a classic Example of a Mason Decoy Factory “Premier Grade” Mallard drake, produced in Detroit, Michigan, during the early 20th century (circa 1910-1920). As a premier grade model, it features the signature hollow-body construction with a distinct neck filler and the high-quality paint patterns that made Mason the gold standard for factory decoys. The underside retains its original lead weight and shows the characteristic “PREMIER” stamp, though heavily weathered. The piece displays an authentic, aged patina with significant paint wear, craquelure throughout the body, a notable vertical crack along the back and breast, and a chip at the tip of the bill, all of which speak to its history of actual field use. H 7″, W 17.5″, D 6.25″. Please see photos.
