Description

This late 19th-century Victorian mantel clock, manufactured by the renowned Ansonia Clock Company of New York, is a premier example of the Rococo Revival style. The case is expertly crafted from cast spelter with a deep bronze-toned patina, featuring elaborate scrolls, floral flourishes, and a prominent shell-like crest. A standout feature is the vibrant porcelain panel at the base, which depicts a classical scene of two winged cherubs. The 3-inch white porcelain dial features Arabic numerals and the distinct Ansonia “A” trademark. While the internal movement appears complete, the clock is currently untested for full operation; notably, the chime functions when wound but does not trip as the hands advance, necessitating service by a professional. Included with the clock is its winding key. Visually, there are visible chips on the porcelain dial surrounding both winding spindles, and the metal case exhibits a heavy layer of surface dust and aged patina consistent with its era. H 14.75″, W 8.25″, D 5″. Please see photos for condition.
