Description

This Newtonian reflector was originally assembled in 1933 by Leroy Clausing in Skokie, Illinois, a maker who would go on to be a respected figure in the world of optical coatings. The telescope features a beautifully finished wood-veneer barrel with brass and cast-metal fittings, mounted on a classic wooden surveyor-style tripod. Included with this lot is a specialized eyepiece case containing various lenses and a truly remarkable provenance album. This album meticulously details the item’s history, including solar eclipse observations from 1991 and 1998, and a photographic record of its professional restoration completed in April 1991. The instrument appears to be in excellent restored condition, showing only minor age-appropriate wear to the tripod legs and light surface patina on some metal components. H 57″, W 8″, D 26″. Please see photos for condition. Note: Pickup/ Transport required. Contacts available post auction.
