Description
This antique Art Nouveau inkwell is a signed work by the French sculptor Lucien Charles Edouard Alliot (1877–1967). The piece features a classic “Femme-Fleur” motif, with a woman in flowing drapery integrated into a base of organic lily pads and floral blooms. While the exterior appears to have a bronze-toned patina, your observation of exposed white metal (likely spelter or “regule”) where the finish has worn is a key detail. In the early 20th century, many sculptors produced works in white metal with a bronze wash to make fine art more accessible to the middle class. The signature “L. ALLIOT” is clearly cast into the base. Please see photos for condition.
