Description

This elegant parlor table is a quintessential example of the American Eastlake movement from the late 19th century, characterized by its move toward rectilinear forms and delicate, machine-carved details. Crafted from solid walnut with a rich, dark patina, the piece features a square top with a beveled edge supported by four masterfully turned spindle legs. The lower 16-inch square tier provides structural stability and a functional display surface, anchored by intricately carved, scroll-cut corner brackets that exemplify the aesthetic attention of the era. The underside reveals authentic period joinery with an “X” brace construction typical of quality late-Victorian craftsmanship. Objectively, the table is in stable structural condition, though the wood surfaces show significant wear consistent with age, including heavy scratching, finish loss, and a notable circular indentation on the tabletop, see photos.
