Coin Op & Advertising - Spring Classic Part 1 - Day 3
Lot 2402:
Description
This elegant French Provincial style console table features a striking serpentine front and classic cabriole legs adorned with detailed acanthus leaf carvings and a central fleur-de-lis motif on the apron. The walnut surface showcases a beautiful book-matched grain pattern accented by delicate perimeter inlay and a molded edge. A true marvel of mid-century engineering, it features a sophisticated accordion-style wooden expansion mechanism where the tracks slide open fairly freely, allowing it to extend significantly for dining. While the additional expansion leaves are not present, the table remains a versatile piece of furniture with a flip-top design that doubles its depth. The piece exhibits an honest patina of age, with visible nicks, heavy scratches to the top surface, and minor finish wear on the carved knees, though it remains structurally sound with no visible manufacturer’s marks. When completely compacted, the table stands 29 inches off the floor and is 20.75″ deep. The top surface is 8 inches wide before being fully unfolded to a length of approximately 41.5 inches without leaves; the accordion mechanism allows for a total potential length of approximately 82 inches, see photos.
