Lot 2313:
Description
This stunning piece of German military history is a classic Reservistenkrug (Reservist beer stein), specifically dedicated to an artillery regiment. Crafted from fine porcelain with vibrant, detailed hand-painted scenes depicting cannon drills, field maneuvers, and horse-drawn artillery teams, it exudes the pride of late 19th or early 20th-century German military service. The stein features a beautifully detailed pewter lid topped with a miniature field cannon and includes a traditional “lithophane” at the bottom—a translucent porcelain image of a courting couple visible when held to the light. The underside of the lid bears the mark of the retailer “L. Aden Darmstadt,” while the handle mount features a “JP” stamp, likely identifying the pewterer or the component manufacturer. The regimental markings, including the monogram “IR” (associated with the Königlich Württembergisches Feldartillerie-Regiment based on the text “König Karl”), point to a production era during the reign of Kaiser Wilhelm II. The overall condition is excellent, with no visible cracks, chips, or loss of detail to the hand-painted decoration, indicating it has been well-preserved.
