Lot 2250:
Description
These iconic “Esquire Girl” pin-up calendars from 1946 and 1947 represent the golden era of American mid-century illustration, famously showcasing the alluring artwork of the legendary Alberto Vargas. These calendars are highly collectible artifacts of post-war pop culture, featuring the distinctive, soft-focus airbrushed style that defined the Esquire aesthetic during this period. The 1946 calendar, published by Esquire, Inc. in Chicago, continues the charming tradition of including monthly verses or poems accompanying each illustration, a delightful feature that was subsequently phased out in the 1947 edition, which transitioned to a landscape layout. Both calendars are complete; however, they exhibit expected age-related wear, including some handling creases, surface blemishes, and minor discoloration on the pages and covers. Notably, the hanging holes remain in good condition, suggesting they were likely not utilized for long-term wall display. The year “1946” is written in pen on the back of the 1946 calendar. 1946 Calendar: H 12.25″, W 8.5″, D 0.25″; 1947 Calendar: H 8.75″, W 12″, D 0.25″. Please see photos for condition.
