The Frank Rider Collection - Spring Classic Part 1 - Day 2
Lot 1389:
Description
These three exquisite Victorian-era musical photograph albums are a fascinating glimpse into 19th-century parlor entertainment. The collection features a vibrant blue velvet album, a rich red velvet album, and a rare landscape-oriented album mounted on an integrated, functional musical stand. The albums are adorned with ornate, metallic decorative elements, typical of the era’s elaborate aesthetic. From my years of collecting, these are classic examples of late 1800s photo albums that doubled as music boxes—a popular luxury item for displaying cartes de visite (CDV) portraits. The blue album is in solid, empty condition; the red album is structurally sound but the musical mechanism is currently non-functional; the landscape-oriented album on its musical stand is fully operational and contains approximately 13 CDV-sized photographs. The celluloid cover on the landscape album shows surface cracking but remains complete, offering a wonderful restoration opportunity. All items show age-appropriate wear to the velvet and metallic trim. H 13″, W 12″, D 10″ (Dimensions provided for the largest item). Please see photos for condition.
