This collection, curated from the historic Svoboda’s Nickelodeon Tavern and Museum in Chicago Heights, Illinois, is a comprehensive lot of approximately 30 pieces of local entertainment history. Central to the collection is an original “Zing-a-Boom,” an inventive musical instrument designed for one-man band performers. This specific example was likely crafted by the Svoboda family in the 1970s or later during the latter part of the museum’s existence, serving as a functional tribute to the early 20th-century theater era. The device is a marvel of rustic engineering, featuring a circular drum head for percussive beats, a brass sound plate, and a wooden handle assembly with a mounted bell for rhythmic accents. The lot also includes a framed vintage tavern poster highlighting the establishment’s 1908 roots, several informational brochures, and an assortment of approximately 25-plus branded “Svoboda’s Nickelodeon” and non-branded costume hats. The paper materials display expected age-related toning, and the hats are in stable, displayable vintage condition. The Zing-a-Boom shows character-defining aged wood, while the metal components exhibit only minimal patina, reflecting its later construction and careful preservation within the museum collection.
