Description

This exceptional lot features an artifact of significant provenance: the personal “Zing-a-Boom” percussion instrument owned and used by Al Svoboda of the legendary Svoboda’s Nickelodeon Tavern and Museum in Chicago Heights, Illinois. As highlighted in the included 1997 provenance letter from Bill and Dee Kavouras, this specific instrument was hanging on the wall at the end of the tavern bar and was gifted directly by Al Svoboda himself. It is a rare, tangible link to the museum, further validated by the included framed archival photo, which pictures a proprietor holding this exact style of instrument. The ensemble is completed by a suite of museum ephemera: a framed Tavern poster, a liquidation announcement flyer, seven promotional brochures, a large-format postcard, and a branded felt novelty bowler hat. The instrument exhibits a deep, authentic patina on the brass and honest wear to the wood, consistent with its long-term display in a historic establishment. The ephemera shows expected vintage toning and minimal edge wear, preserving the “time-capsule” quality of this collection. H 43″, W 11″, D 7″ (Instrument). Please see photos for condition.
