Firearms and Ammo Auction
Lot 1264:
Description
This handsome sporterized rifle is built on a classic U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1898 Krag-Jørgensen action. While the Model 1896 and 1898 look similar, the Model 1898 marking visible on the receiver and the serial number 73594 (produced in 1898) confirm its identity; the 1898 model notably removed the bolt-handle locking recess found on the 1896, making for an even smoother throw. It has been custom-fit with an MG Bowen barrel and chambered for the formidable .35 Krag Improved wildcat cartridge. The rifle features a custom walnut sporter stock with a cheekpiece, white spacers, and a rubber recoil pad, transitioning it from its military origins into a specialized hunting configuration. The receiver retains the iconic right-side loading gate. The metal displays a deep blued finish with some thinning and minor handling marks, while the stock shows light scratches and typical wear. Per the user’s notes, the trigger and action mechanism require professional servicing, and the front sight pin is currently protruding and needs attention. Overall length is 44.5″, with a 23-3/8″ barrel. H 7″, W 44.5″, D 3″. Please see photos for overall condition. S/N 73594 C&R Eligible.
