Description

This is a classic American-made J. Stevens Arms Company Model 5100 double-barrel side-by-side shotgun from Chicopee Falls, Mass., notably featuring “Tenite” synthetic stocks. Introduced in the late 1930s and used through the 1940s, Tenite was a pioneering wood-grained thermoplastic used by Stevens to provide a durable, weather-resistant alternative to walnut during the war era. This 12-gauge “Selected Forged Steel” boxlock features 2 3/4″ chambers, double triggers, and a receiver marked with a pointer dog engraving and a heart-shaped proof. The piece is in fair-to-poor condition, as the Tenite material has suffered from the common “shrinkage” and brittleness issues associated with early plastics, resulting in a significant separation and crack where the stock meets the receiver at the wrist. The metal shows a mix of original case coloring, thinning bluing, and surface oxidation. H 5.25″, W 2.25″, D 46.25″.
