Description

This bolt-action rifle is a Japanese Arisaka Type 99 Short Rifle, a primary infantry weapon of the Imperial Japanese Army during WWII. Chambered in 7.7x58mm Arisaka, this specimen is a late-war “Last Ditch” variation, indicated by its simplified features and the “Series 24” marking alongside the Kokura Arsenal symbol on the receiver, bearing serial number 57335. The “stacked cannonballs” mark is the definitive logo for the Kokura Arsenal. Based on the serial block, this rifle was manufactured circa 1944–1945. The Imperial Chrysanthemum has been heavily struck or ground, and the receiver shows significant pitting. While the barrel retains its rifling, the bore is dark and dirty. Expert observation suggests the wooden buttplate is a modern replacement, as evidenced by contemporary nails and the lack of aged patina compared to the primary stock. The rifle is missing its bolt assembly, and metal surfaces show heavy oxidation and surface pitting throughout. H 6″, W 44″, D 2″. “. Please see photos for overall condition. S/N 57335 C&R Eligible.
