Description

This is a Japanese Type 99 Arisaka bolt-action rifle, a primary service arm of the Imperial Japanese Army during WWII, bearing serial number 60849. Based on the Kokura Arsenal mark (four stacked cannonballs) and the serial number, this rifle was produced during the mid-war period, likely between 1941 and 1943. The receiver is marked with the Type 99 (???) kanji, though the Imperial Chrysanthemum (mon) has been ground off. It includes a Type 30 bayonet, serial number 2496871, also featuring the Kokura/Tokyo Arsenal insignia and a hooked crossguard. The rifle features a unique finish history, as it was previously covered in a green paint that has since been largely removed, leaving the original wood and metal surfaces well-preserved. The rifle retains its ladder-style rear sight, though the anti-aircraft “wings” are missing. The original wood stock is in good condition with no cracks or significant damage, and the barrel measures 25.125″ in length. This example comes equipped with a non-original nylon webbing sling. The bayonet is notably bright and sharp. Physically, the piece shows light thinning of the bluing and minor handling marks on the wood; the bore remains clean, though the rifling is noted as being weak. H 4.5″, W 44.25″, D 2.25″ Please see photos for overall condition. S/N 60849. C&R Eligible.
