Description
Here is a Springfield Armory Krag-Jorgenson Model 1896 US Rifle manufactured in May 1897 and chambered in .30-40 Karg. Used as the standard issued rifle during the Spanish American War era, the Krag saw less than a decade of service before it was replaced by the newer Model 1903. This particular rifle has been sporterized, with its barrel cut down to 22-inches (missing front sight) and its stock replaced. Its markings are clean and crisp and the finish exhibits some of its original bluing, accented with a dark patina. There is visible oxidation on the trigger guard, and the rear site shows pitting. The aftermarket stock is in solid condition and shows minor dings and scratches. Bore is clean and rifling is prominent. Mechanically, the action and trigger are tight and appear to function properly. Please see photos for overall condition. S/N: 62122. Classified Antique.
