Description

This is a Japanese Arisaka Type 99 bolt-action rifle, a staple of the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. This particular rifle was manufactured at the Kokura Arsenal, evidenced by the specific stacked cannonball arsenal mark on the receiver’s left side. The Imperial Chrysanthemum (Mum) is visible on the top of the receiver, however, is worn. The rifle features the late war “last ditch” style wood stock, with the short-handguard, wooden buttplate, and the lack of finger grooves. The wood shows a dark, aged patina with various handling marks, compressions, and a visible seam in the buttstock, a characteristic of Japanese two-piece stock construction. The metal surfaces exhibit a consistent brown-grey patina and thinning finish throughout. Rifle is equipped with the last-ditch style front sight and the fixed rear peep sight. The bolt and receiver have matching numbers. Bore is good and rifling is rounded as expected for a last ditch gun. Mechanically, the action and trigger are tight and appear to function properly. Please see photos for overall condition. S/N: 88987. C&R Eligible.
