Lot 1170:
Description
Here is a highly desirable 1917 dated Model of 1911 U.S. Army Colt pistol chambered in .45 caliber. The M1911 was the standard issue sidearm of the United States Armed Forces from 1911 to 1985. This single-action, recoil operated semi-automatic pistol is renowned for its reliability and stopping power and has made a mark in the history books of the U.S. Armed Forces. This particular pistol displays the “Model of 1911. U.S. Army” stamping on the right side of the slide, along with the serial number “139163” on the frame. The left side of the frame displays “United States Property” and the inspector mark for Colonel Gilbert H. Stewart (GHS). Barrel is marked with a “H” and “P” stamping, which is correct for 1917 manufactured 1911. The blued finish is in really good condition for its age, showing holster wear on the edges and fading on the grip straps. Barrel does show finish wear from use. Bore and rifling are clean and in good condition. The wood grips are in excellent condition, showing little wear. Mechanically, the action and trigger are tight and appear to function properly. Comes with one period correct, half blued magazine with no markings. This is a phenomenal piece of military and firearm history that is well preserved. Please see photos for overall condition.
