Hollywood Blvd Cinema Memorabilia
Lot 1509:
Description
These striking masks represent the Barong, the king of spirits and symbol of good in Balinese mythology. Hand-carved from wood and adorned with vibrant polychrome paint and gold leaf accents, each piece features the characteristic bulging eyes, prominent tusks, and stylized floral or flame-like motifs typical of Indonesian folk art. The craftsmanship suggests they were created in the mid-to-late 20th century, likely in or around Gianyar, Bali, known for its rich tradition of woodcarving. The backs are hollowed out, revealing the raw wood and manual carving marks. Overall, the set is in good vintage condition; there is visible light surface wear, some minor paint chipping along the edges and high points, and light dust accumulation in the crevices, but no significant structural cracks or losses were observed. H 10″, W 9.5″, D 4″. Please use photos to judge condition and bid accordingly. Please note: Buyer is responsible for removal. From the Hollywood Blvd. Cinemas Collection.
