This exquisite piece of Chinese needlework features two birds perched amidst lush green foliage, a classic motif symbolizing harmony and nature. The embroidery is executed on a pale silk ground with a visible “She” or “Shu” style influence, complemented by traditional calligraphic characters. The artwork is presented in a unique, multi-layered wooden frame featuring intricate fretwork (kumiko-style) inserts that add significant depth and architectural interest to the display. This mid-20th-century piece shows well, though there is light surface wear to the wooden frame and some minor toning to the silk consistent with age.
