The John Bannister Collection - D-Day and Militaria
Lot 2268:
Description
Peaked visor cap for an Enlisted Man or Non-Commissioned Officer (EM/NCO) of the Reichsarbeitsdienst (RAD). This distinctive example is constructed of dark navy-blue to black wool, featuring matching dark piping and a center band of the same dark material. This specific color configuration, combined with the blue silk-like interior lining, is characteristic of specialized RAD units, such as those assigned to the Kriegsmarine (Navy) support roles or specific administrative branches. The insignia consists of the standard two-piece stamped aluminum set: the national labor service eagle and the RAD spade emblem. "HB" perforated sweatband. Condition is good for its age; the wool body is crisp and well-shaped, while the leather visor shows minor age-crazing and the sweatband exhibits expected darkening from use with about half the stitching separated at the front. H 5.5", W 9", D 10.5". Please see photos.
