The John Bannister Collection - D-Day and Militaria
Lot 2245:
Description
This is an exceptional and highly complete mid-20th-century Italian Royal Army (Regio Esercito) officer’s field kitchen set, a sophisticated piece of military logistics that reflects the distinct character of Italian field service. The set is housed in its original, heavy-duty “CUCINA PER UFFICIALI” (Kitchen for Officers) transport crate, constructed of wood with reinforced steel edging and robust iron hardware. Inside, the kit reveals a masterclass in modular design, featuring high-quality aluminum components including nesting stockpots, specialized canisters for “ZUCCHERO” (Sugar) and “SALE” (Salt), and two service canteens. This comprehensive set also includes a full array of long-handled serving utensils, a cheese grater, nesting plates, and a dedicated tin containing stainless steel cutlery and a corkscrew. The inclusion of the original sectional support poles and the protective felt lining makes this a rare, “museum-grade” ensemble for the discerning militaria collector. The exterior of the crate exhibits a weathered, field-used patina with significant paint loss and oxidation on the metal straps that authenticates its history, while the interior contents remain remarkably well-preserved and clean. H 12″, W 30″, D 12″. Please see photos.
