Description
A nice German World War II grouping including a Waffen SS Runic Banner, Hitler Youth Banner/Flag, and a set of original German photo prints. 1) The Waffen SS banner is large and double sided. It measures 56” wide by 224” long. The white SS runes are machine stitched on and are 11” thick and 100” tall. Side by side, they measure 47” wide. The banner has damage to material from pests or other factors that is symmetrical, occurring when the banner was folded. Remnants of sisal cord on the top end, along with reinforcing for suspension. Several of the original photos in this grouping show a banner much like this one and how it was folded and displayed on a stand-alone setup. Aside from the damaged areas, the banner is in stable condition with no detrimental structural tears. 2) The Hitler Youth banner is double sided. It measures approx. 59” wide and 98” long. The red/white/red vertical sections are approx. 20” wide each. The central swastika is 40” across diagonal. Minimal stains in the material, with no tears or significant holes. There are thumbtack/nail holes from where it would have been suspended as a war trophy. 3) Approximately 54 original German photo prints showing formations, soldier gatherings bonfire, pack animals, interior structure images, Waffen SS banner in outdoor ceremony etc. All the prints are stamped on back with “Veroffentlichung nu unter” Aufnahme W. Graupner” stamp Some numbers written on many. Dimensions 5.25” x7”
The group was acquired from a veteran [Paul, last name unknown] of the 63rd Armor INF BN, of the 11th Armored Regiment, and described himself as “One of Patton’s boys”. He drove tanks and half-tracks. Entered service at age 18, made SGT at 20yrs old. Please see photos.
